Happy last day of May! The first half of the month was fairly slow for me, and then somehow I blinked and here we are. Let’s see what I got up to.
The Self-Publishing Update
I have seen the final art for Wyrmrot’s cover! All the remains cover-wise is adjusting for trim size, page count, and adding the back cover copy. Once all of that is done, we can move forward with the full cover reveal, pre-orders, and ARCs.
So…
Would you like to see the tiniest of tiny sneak peeks?
Hopefully, very soon we will be unwrapping this package to see the full thing. In the meantime, I’ve spent the last two weeks preparing for the next steps. This included things like registering for U.S. copyright, buying ISBNs, making sure my formatting was in order, picking Amazon categories and keywords, formatting the blurb for Amazon, deciding how I want to do ARCs (use a service or DIY or both?) and preparing for that, updating my website, thinking about how I need to resurrect my social media and what I’m going to post for marketing. The list goes on…
This newsletter also got itself a fancy custom domain, and I now have welcome goodies for subscribers (yes, this is the free stuff I mentioned in the subject line).
If you’d like to grab the goodies for yourself, you can find them here. Make sure you input the email you used to subscribe, otherwise you’ll end up with duplicates of this newsletter and nobody wants that. Or maybe you do? I won’t judge.
For now the goodies include sample chapters of Wyrmrot and a collection of bonus stories set in the world of Wyrmrot (these will contain spoilers for the book, so if you didn’t get a chance to read an earlier version of the book when it was on Wattpad or Ream Stories, I would hold off on diving in.) If you have an idea for future goodies you’d like to see, feel free to let me know in the comments or send me a message.
The Serial Fiction Update
Not only was I busy preparing self-publishing things this month, but I also completed a book on my serial platforms and launched a new one. I’m, of course, talking about May Shadows Reign and When Kingdoms Fall (books 2 and 3 in The Lost Queen series, respectively).
As of yesterday (May 30th) the entirely of May Shadows Reign is posted on all the free platforms and the first chapter of When Kingdoms Fall made its debut. I also reopened subscriptions for early access chapters, bonus content, short stories, and access to Snowflakes on Saguaros (this is my Christmastime college romance).
Here’s all the links in case you would like to check them out:
For subscription access: Ream Stories and Inkitt
For free-platforms: Wattpad, Tapas, and Royal Road
Reading/Watching/Listening
This month I finished reading:
The Hemlock Queen by Hannah Whitten - loved it need the last book in the series right now
Stranger Skies by Pascale Lacelle - I think this might be my favorite dark academia series
Magician: Master by Raymond E. Feist - I’m curious to see where the next book in the series goes because this felt like a good wrap-up of the storylines. I know I could just go read the blurb for the next book, but I like to be surprised.
Yuli (Book 3 in the Guardians of Dawn series) - This one doesn’t release until August 19th, but I was able to read an ARC. Spoiler, I gave it 5 stars for having the cutest romance and most painful ending ( it had no right to hurt me like that).
and I finished up the month with Royal Assassin (Book 2 in the Farseer trilogy) by Robin Hobb - This one also hurt, but I loved it (hmm I think I’m seeing a pattern here. Is this why I write the way I do? Well, nevermind that.)
Overall, I would say it was a very good reading month.
As for Watching and Listening, does scrolling TikTok to figure out how I should be marketing Wyrmrot count? I hope so because that’s all I’ve got (and no, I still don’t really know how to market, but I’ll be trying my best. )
And that’s all I’ve got for this month! See you in June.
